|
New Provincial Regulations
In British Columbia, the ordinary property owner can no longer do any work on their septic system.
As of May 31, 2005, only an authorized person under the BC Health Act can design, plan, construct or
do any maintenance work on a sewerage system. An authorized person is a professional or a Registered
Onsite Wastewater Practitioner who has education or experience in sewerage system construction and
maintenance.

It is the responsibility of the home owner to only enlist the service of a Registered Onsite wastewater Practitioner, one who has completed all
relevant courses and is certified by the Province of British Columbia.
It is the responsibility of the Registered Onsite wastewater Practitioner to:
complete permit from local authority
Provide onsite plan
Purchase only approved materials
Complete project in timely fashion
approve project and supply Letter of Sewer System Certification
This provides the homeowner the security that the project is free from defect and has been completed by a professional.
